Ok, I guess we'll light the candle & see where we end up. :)

Currently work in progress reviving this theme for use on Gnome shell 3.4 (& hopefully longer)

I haven't updated this for gnome shell 3.6, anyone is welcome to take it on if they'd like to. Not sure when, or if, I'll get to it.

I keep hoping that Gnome will quit breaking themes with every new release.

There should be a link upper right to download.

It is probably out of date though, it was done for 3.4. I don't know what will happen if you try it on 3.6, assuming that's what you're on of course. :)

The GTK will, I have no idea what will happen if you try it with Unity. I don't use Ubuntu so Unity doesn't run on this machine.

Were you eventually able to theme the panel?

Do not works as expected with dual screen: [link]
they are a strange extra bar in left display

I see that. I don't have dual monitors to test with but look in the #panel section, try adding this line:

background-size: contain;

If you find a solution I'll include it, I just don't have the means to swat that bug myself. :)

background-size: contain; do not fix it

Set border-image to:
border-image: url("backPanel.png") 0 1680 0 0 repeat;

fix it but it is not the good way

Using :
border-image: url("backPanel.png");

works fine here

That stretches the image quite a bit though, which looks good on my monitor though.

This is what I'm trying now:

border-image: url("backPanel.png") 500 500 0 0 repeat;

I edited the shell theme only. You can try it out [link]

I'm working on some backgrounds and borders for the theme. Inkscape and Gimp skills are required so it's gonna take some time.

If you're doing backgrounds & borders the theme will probably depart quite a bit from the original. My gimp & inkscape skills are nonexistent.

My biggest problem is that I've got enough time in this one now that I don't want to abandon what I've done, and you probably feel along the same lines. If we were to break it into shell/gtk/metacity portions that could work, but the GTK & metacity are already pretty decent. I'm open to suggestions.

I noticed you modified the GTK & metacity pretty much and I haven't known how to do the GTK theme yet. If you agree we will use my shell theme (of course with your improvement if you want to) and your GTK theme. It's all out Old-Steampunk so I hope you agree.

Graphics is the vital factor that impresses me in Old-Steampunk. There are still missing puzzles in the Shell Theme like App switcher, workspace switcher, and dialogs. I hope we can think of some way to solve it besides pumping more graphics into it. My inkscape and gimp skill is not better than you--it's about 0.1 or 0.2 :)

I'm just going to continue with this at my own pace. You should publish yours, we can always borrow from each other.

I am curious about your approach though. With this version I took a fresh Default theme & have slowly been slipping in Old Steampunk. Have you been trying to update the original .css from 3.0 to 3.4?

I'm just too picky, I don't consider it done until it's exactly the way I use it. I don't leave any shell theme alone, yours would be no exception.

I'm sorry, I just don't think this project is one that I can collaborate on, at least not in the way you're suggesting. Feel free to borrow bits of this to finish your own. Might be nice giving people options. :)

ok I see :) can you publish the GTK theme and shell theme separately so I can link to the GTK theme later? Thank you.

Feel free to package the GTK anyway you would like. If you want to create a separate package, or include it with your own, that's fine by me. :)

I already feel like I'm maintaining too much.

I might grab a couple, at least for the couple apps I have on the panel. I wish I could find a set as complete as AwOken or Faenza.

Thank you. :)

By complete set I presume you mean a set of matching icons that fulfill all the functions of an o/s, forming a uniform theme?

I am creating icons as quickly as I can but my approach is that a steampunk desktop would tend to be slightly anarchistic and non-uniform so my icons have almost deliberately avoided any theme...

Having said that I have just started the idea of one or two themes. Be a while yet until they are anywhere near complete.

I agree, I like the eclectic approach.

I like your icons quite a bit too. I wish creating icon themes was a bit easier. :) It's something that intimidates me at this stage of my development. :rofl:
